Final Blog Entry

Part One: In my opinion, I can most accurately be described as a disciplined mind. Throughout this year, and my academic career in general, I have steadily improved in several areas of study. From my analysis of rhetorical strategies in English, to my application of DeMoirve's Theorem in mathematics, I have grown to understand and comprehend many aspects of scholarly discipline.

Part Two: I have reason to believe that I exhibit curiosity, experiment with new ideas, and generate hypotheses. In my everyday life, I am always willing to learn something new. In addition, I have an eagerness to learn something new, which I use to my advantage. I am constantly trying attempting new sports, meeting new people, and listening and watching a variety of music and movies. Furthermore, I have the ability to analyze a piece of information and generate a hypothesis by doing so. One of my best attributes is my ability to infer from an article, textbook, or novel.

Part Three: Through my blog experience, I have come to one general realization: blogging is an easy and effective way of publishing your ideas. Blogging, in addition to the fact that it is extremely easy to set up, start, and design, is a way to publish one's ideas and own interests. People can use blogging to their advantage in the future by utilizing it's resources and applying them to one's everyday life. Blogging is a resource at our disposal.

Sequels Suck!

More often than not, sequels and/or prequels ruin successful/entertaining movies. From the "Star Wars" prequels of the last decade, to "Superman" in the 80's, every era has its awful sequels. Accoring to "Moviephone", here are the 10 worst sequels of all time:

1. "Batman and Robin" (1997)
2. "Basic Instinct 2" (2006)
3. "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" (2003)
4. "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" (2000)
5. "Staying Alive" (1983)
6. "Jason X" (2002)
7. "Blues Brothers 2000" (1998)
8. "Weekend at Bearnie's II" (1993)
9. "Speed 2: Cruise Control" (1997)
10. "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" (1987)

Although it did not make the list as a top 10 worst sequel, here is an honorable mention in "Leprechaun in the Hood":

"Hobgoblins": A Movie You Have to See!

The title says it all. When I was watching the trailer for this movie, I came to a remarkable conclusion: there are some movies that are so bad, so cheesy, so worthless, that you have to see them. "Hobgoblins", in my opinion, looks like one of these movies.

Released in 1988, the movie revolves around a group of hobgoblins, who allow you to live out your fantasies but kill you in the process, escape from a studio vault and reek havoc on a small town. Essentially, it features unnecessary gore, sex, violence, and terrible acting. Accoring to the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB), "Hobgoblins" is the 25th worst movie of all time (just one sport in front of "The Pod People").

Every now and then, a film like "Hobgoblins" comes around, and manages to catch your attention for all the wrong reasons. Because it looks so dreadfully awful, because the plot is so outrageous, and because the acting is so pathetic, it's a movie you simply have to see.

Zyzzyx Road - The Lowest Grossing Movie of All Time

Can you name a single person who saw the movie "Zyzzyx Road"? No? It might have something to do with the fact that it is the lowest grossing film in the history of cinema.

With a budget of $1,200, the writers, directors, and actors of "Zyzzyx Road" did not expect the movie to be a blockbuster. "Zyzzyx Road" was shown once a day at noon for six days at Highland Park Village Theater in Dallas, Texas, a movie theater rented by the producers for $1,000. The limited release was deliberate: the producers were uninterested in releasing the film domestically until it underwent foreign distribution, but needed to fulfill the U.S. release obligation required by the Screen Actors Guild for low-budget films (films with budgets less than $2.5 million that are not for the direct-to-video market).

The strategy had the side effect of making the film the lowest grossing film of all time, earning just $30 at the box office from exactly six people.

Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies)

Every winter, millions of people gather around their television sets in anticipation of the biggest awards show in the world: The Academy Awards. Honoring the accomplishments of actors, actresses, directors, and cinematographers, The Academy Awards is the oldest and most prestigious award ceremony in the media.

Of course, winning an "Oscar" is the dream of almost anyone involved in film; it solidifies one's place in motion picture immortality. In today's society, however, receiving an award for an accomplishment in film, is not always good. The Golden Raspberry Awards, commonly called Razzies, are an annual award ceremony honoring the worst films of the year.

Established in 1981 by American publicist John J.B. Wilson, The Razzies are held in Los Angeles, California, the night before the annual Academy Awards. For the annual Razzie Awards, results are based on votes from approximately 650 journalists, cinema fans, and professionals from the film industry. The awards themselves typically cost $4.79 each, in the form of a "golfball-sized raspberry" which sits atop a Super 8 mm film reel; the whole of which is spray-painted gold.

Why Am I Still Watching?

Is there such thing as a bad action movie? Can a fight between good and evil fail to captivate an audience? Has there ever been a fight scene that is actually the most boring scene of the film? The Answer to these questions is YES.
What you are about to see is, without a doubt, the most pathetic attempt at a fight in the history of action films. In addition to the fact that the "monster" in this fight is clearly a man in a lizard costume, the man in that lizard costume is the most lackadaisical fighter to ever grace the silver screen. The intensity of the fight makes it seem as though the entire scene is improvised. In fact, it would be less embarrassing for everyone if it were improvised.

The following scene, to be honest, isn't even funny. It will, however, induce sleep:

Troll 2 - The Epitome of An Awful Film

When analyzing films such as "Track of the Moon Beast", "Killer Klowns From Outer Space", and "Laserblast", one begins to recognize several trends. In addition to the implausible and preposterous plots, mediocre special effects, and horrendous "monsters", the acting in these films is disgraceful. In fact, these trends are universal characteristics of terrible movies.

Take, for instance, Claudio Fragasso's "Troll 2". Often considered the worst movie in the history of mankind, Troll 2 contains every chracterisitc of an awful film. From the trolls (who were actually children in costumes) to the acting (According to "Rotten Tomatoes", Troll 2 contains the worst acting in any movie, EVER ), this movies is painful to watch.

After its realease in July of 1992, critics everywhere deemed Troll 2 "Unbearable", "Embarassing", "A joke", and "A scar on the history of filmmaking". In today's society, however, Troll 2 has become a cult classic. With annual festivals dedicated to the film, such as "Troll Fest", and documenteries honoring the insignificance of the film ("Best Worst Movie"), Troll 2 is a movie you have to see to believe.

The Worst Movies Ever Made

Motion pictures, in today's society, are more than entertainment. From the admirable cinematography of world-renowned directors, to remarkable editing and sound mixing, movies are America's most respected form of art. In fact, every winter, movie stars congregate in Hollywood, California to honor the most spectacular accomplishments of film. Winning an Academy Award is the aspiring achievement of every writer, director, and producer; the "Oscars" are the Rolls-Royce of movie awards. Like any other aspect of society, however, there is an eerie, often times overshadowed realm to the wonderful world of cinematic film. For every film nominated for an Academy Award, there are ten more that will induce self-inflicted wounds. There are movies so awful that by simply mentioning their titles, one is likely to cause intense pain to unexpecting bystanders. Not only will people contemplate suicide after watching these movies, they will question the sanity of anyone involved in the film's production. These are the WORST movies ever made.
